Whether you decide to play one table, two tables or ten tables at a time, making sure you are at a table you have a good shot at beating is important. There are a couple different things to consider. The poker tracking software can certainly be helpful here but there is more to it than just seeing a bunch of people whose statistics say they are beatable by your game.
The first is table limit. Be sure you don’t sit into a table with limits too high for your comfort zone even if it looks like a table full of people giving their money away. If you can see it, so can others who are more comfortable than you are playing at the higher stakes. If you have to commit half your bankroll just to sit at the table, that is a huge risk. A couple unlucky hands early could wipe you out.
The second thing to look at is average pot size. This can tell you a lot about how the table is playing. Small average pot size can mean that very few people are entering the pots so you can expect to see bigger starting hands. If you like to play a really aggressive game, this could be good. You may be able to push people out of pots by simply being aggressive when the flop looks likely to have missed them. If your style is suited to playing big, multi-way pots, you probably want to see big average pot size. This means lots of people probably seeing the flop and there is plenty of action post flop.
Remember, these aren’t hard and fast rules, they are just indicators. Once you see a table that looks like it will probably be good, watch it for an orbit or two just to be sure it is actually playing in a style that suits your game.
Online poker has a lot of different facets to it. It is constantly full of change and the challenges can be frustrating at times. Every session you play is an opportunity to learn and try out new skills and strategies. Setting goals and exceeding them can be extremely satisfying.
